Sweet Baby Zane and Families of SMA
We at Families of SMA would like to thank the Schmid family for their continued support to the Families of SMA motor-neuron replacement program. Your efforts are fantastic. Here is what Hillary Schmid had to say about the day
“Wonderful. Everything was wonderful; the weather, the crowd, and the event itself went very smoothly. God gave us a sunny 79 degree day with a light breeze and very few clouds in the sky. We had 410 people participate in the walk/ run. Keith and I were overwhelmed with the amount of support from our families, friends, the community, and total strangers. We can’t wait until the day we tell Avery about Zane, her legacy, and the community that rallied in support of Fighting SMA.”
Thanks again to the Schmid’s and all they continue to do for Families of SMA.
And there is more…
Boston Marathon Runner Supporting Baby Zane and FSMA
To read about Zane Schmid & family please visit their blog. We would especially like to call attention to the following exert from their page:
“A few months back, I received an email from a stranger. A stranger that had seen Zane’s video, a stranger that was touched by her, a stranger who wanted to make a difference in the world of SMA. Although, we haven’t met him yet, he is no longer a stranger, but a wonderful man who stuck to his word and IS making a difference in the world of SMA. We carry a place for him in our hearts! His name is Mike. Mike has decided to run The Boston Marathon in memory of Zane and the proceeds raised will be donated to FSMA.”
Marathon Mike is determined to run for SMA, and if you would like to read more about him and his fundraising efforts, visit his FirstGiving donation site here. Good luck, Mike!

We are honored to be Fundraising Stars! However, I feel there are many Stars: our families, friends, and community folk. They are unbelievably supportive and care about this as much as we do. There is only one Shining Star though…and that is our Angel Baby Zane. She inspired many. Many love her.
Hillary and Keath,
As a young couple you have inspired so many by your courage and dedication to raising money and awareness for SMA. You give hope and inspiration to so many people. Avery is blessed to have loving parents who are such awesome role models.
Almost one year to the date of her diagnosis and look what you’ve accomplished…an amazing feat considering the pain, anquish, sorrow and finally grief that you’ve had to endure…..amazing…you should be proud.
Hillary, Keith and Avery Schmid have become an inspiration to all, just like their daughter Zane. Their tireless efforts to beat SMA is astonishing. They are not only Fundraiser Stars but they are also wonderful parents, friends and relatives to many.
Your SWEET ANGEL BABY ZANE is truly the “SHINING STAR” that led you all to support the fight to find a cure for the helpless victims of SMA. She smiles down on her precious courageous family that continues to stay in the battle on her behalf! That is the MIRACLE of GOD at work in this horrendous tragedy. We LOVE you & support our precious friends, the Schmids & Dunlops! xox
As the father of a 14 year-old son affected by SMA, I am truly grateful for Hillary and Keith’s courage, determination, and generosity of spirit. Although my son Jack faces
many challenges, we are very fortunate to have him with us every day. Families like ours are blessed to have the support of so many others. Thank you, Hillary and Keith, for your willingness to share Baby Zane’s story with others. We are all in this together. With love and admiration to all of you from the Freedman family
Hillary, Keith and Avery,
Congratulations on this recognition of your efforts to educate people about SMA and to spare others your heartache. It is a privilege to help you and an honor to know you!
